Conies – In Hariot’s time, this was the generic term for “rabbits” as opposed to “hares,” which distiction Hariot makes on pg. 756. It could also refer to rabbit fur on pg. 756. Rabbits/conies tend to be smaller than hares, with smaller ears and a more timid disposition; rabbits burrow underground and give birth to furless, blind young, whereas hares nest above ground and give birth to fully-functional young.
