Additional Notes

Boniten (Bonython): ; Captain Boniten was one of the ships’ captains, likely of one of the Spanish prizes adopted by the fleet, on the 1585 Roanoke Voyage under Sir Richard Grenville. During the voyage Captain Boniten, along with Captain Aubrey, found and picked up two of the men marooned on Croatan by Captain Raymond of the Lion. Boniten and Aubrey are also thought to have gathered Dogwood root, of utility as a scarlet dye, while exploring Croatan.;
