Ananias Dare (fl. 1587):; Ananias Dare, formerly a tiler and bricklayer from London, was an assistant (one of twelve) in the 1587 “Lost” Roanoke Island Colony. He was the son in law of the accomplished artist and governor of Roanoke colony, John White, and, as befits a son in law, was the husband of John White’s daughter Elenora (also spelled Elyoner) White Dare, and the father of Virginia Dare, the first English child to be born in the New World. ;
