The Hickory Chair Company, formerly the Surry Chair Company, relocated to Hickory in 1911. The company's creations include a broad selection of traditional chairs, upholstery, tables, case furniture, and accent pieces with special emphasis on 18th-century designs. One of Hickory Chair's most significant marketing decisions was the introduction of the 'James River Collection' in 1961.

James M. Craven and Kent L. Hogan founded Carolina Galvanizing Company in Aberdeen in 1969. The company began as a job galvanizing shop with twelve employees. In 1972 the company began its own line of galvanized products and has grown to be the largest producer of galvanized bar stock in the country. The company now employs 198 full-time workers.

Abstract:
John Price Carr was a pioneer in the trucking industry in the late 19th- and early 20th-centuries in North Carolina. In 1903, he built a Queen Anne style house in Charlotte, and in the late 1970s, the house had deteriorated and was going to be demolished. The efforts of T. Bragg McLeod, owner of Moss Trucking Company and McLeod Trucking and Rigging Company, saved the house for restoration.
