Ajinomoto Company, Inc., a major Japanese company, is constructing a plant facility in Raleigh for the production of amino acids. This will be Ajinomoto’s first manufacturing operation in the United States, and represents North Carolina’s largest Japanese industrial investment. The variety of amino acids produced will be used to add protein to food, intravenous solutions, and other medical compounds.

North Carolina Citizens Association’s Congressional Roundtable consists of the chairmen of the Association’s eleven Congressional District Committees. At a recent meeting in Raleigh, these business leaders reviewed a variety of legislation and federal issues. Among the issues were federal spending and tax limitations, capital cost recovery, value-added tax, collective bargaining, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

On July 4, 1976, American’s celebrated the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Following the commemoration, the Guilford County American Revolution Bicentennial Commission noted that the Battle of Guilford Courthouse fought March 15, 1781, was an important event in North Carolina history. Various plays, reenactments, and ceremonies are now recognizing this historical event.

North Carolina’s new Piedmont Correctional Center in Rowan County was constructed to be efficient and cost effective. The center utilized innovations in design, construction, and inmate control.
