Smith Richardson Jr., former CEO of Richardson Vick, Walter De Vries has founded the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership in Wilmington, North Carolina. The bipartisan, non-profit campaign school identified fellows though to have the capability and backgrounds to succeed in public office, and then trains them in techniques in practical politics.

At a cost of $58 million, the hospital is upgrading facilities, out-patient and in-patient surgical care, intensive care, emergency care, oncology services, rehabilitation and extensive women's health care services.
