Raising Renee is a documentary film that will feature at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham. The film profiles nationally known Durham painter Beverly McIver who teaches art at North Carolina Central University. The subject of the film is about McIver’s decision to care for her mentally handicapped sister after her mother’s death. The article discusses major points in the film and McIver’s life after the decision.

Pelada is a film that shows how soccer provides the opportunity for people to make connections and exchange joy anywhere in the world. The film was created by two former Duke soccer players. The filmmakers traveled to 25 countries looking to play soccer with the local people and talking to them to learn about their lives in their home countries. The film will be shown at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.

Deirdre Haj is the new executive director of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. Haj has previously been an actor, film producer, and industry consultant. Haj is looking to maintain the festival this year and expand the festival in the future through community involvement, programming, and increasing the number of donors.

The Southern Documentary Fund of Durham encourages documentary media projects made within or about the American South. The group serves to help fundraising to support documentary projects and is celebrating its five year anniversary. The group is looking to expand by creating a network for documentary artists to access production resources and distribute their films. Also in the article on film are updates of the Full Frame Documentary Festival and the death of actor Heath Ledger.
