Abstract:
Both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of South Carolina at Columbia shorten their names to Carolina. By examining school records and name changes, the author comes to the conclusion that UNC-Chapel Hill first called itself Carolina, although USC-Columbia will continue to be known by the same name in its state.

In the foothills of Cascade Mountain in western Washington, many residents have North Carolina ties. They enjoy barbecue, blue grass music, and square dancing. Logging is what brought most people to Washington around the turn of the century, and their descendants enjoy a unique cultural identity.\r\n

In June of 1967, former Governor of North Carolina Luther W. Hodges will assume the world-wide presidency of the Rotarians, a civic group that claims membership of more than 600,000 members and 12,600 clubs in 134 countries. The ceremony, which will be held at Nice, France, will include the presentation of an originally drawn illumination, prepared by Charlotte graphic artist and Rotarian Bill Mitchell.
