In March 1976, five burned bodies were discovered just outside of the town of Columbia. William Bradford Bishop of Bethesada, Maryland murdered his wife, mother and three young children before rmoving them 300 miles south to Tyrrell County and depositing the bodies.

Currently, North Carolina has over 16.6 million acres of forest land. Ward began as an Assistant County Ranger in 2019 and became Washington County Ranger in 2020. His most memorable event thus far is the Ferebee Road Fire that burned around 2,000 acres on Father's Day 2022.

Conner is currently the Executive Director of Martin County Tourism Development Authority and the Assistant Developer of Martin County Economic Development. Conner's professional background began with his stint as a science teacher at Riverside High School in 2016. He has a clear vision for promoting the county's ecotourism assets and at present is co-chairing the county's 250th Celebration.

The festival began in 2009. The community of Ocean City originated in 1949, when an interracial corporation, Ocean City Developers purchased beach front property on the Atlantic Ocean that became one of the first African American beach communities in North Carolina. The festival celebrates the history of this community.

The park host more than 110,000 visitors annually. Central to the park is Lake Phelps, which is considered a "Carolina Bay". The area lay virtually undiscovered until 1775. Canoes dating back to 2400 B.C. have been discovered in the lake. the park is located in both Tyrrell and Washington counties.
