Known at the "High Priestess of Soul", Simone, originally from Tryon graduated from the Allen School for Girls in Asheville. She enjoyed a prolific career as a celebrated jazz musician and civil rights activist. In 2017, her childhood home in Tryon was purchased by a group of New York Black artists for restoration.

A group of stargazers known as the Crystal Coast stargazers gather in celebration of Cape Lookout National Seashore’s International Dark Sky Park certificate. The author also addresses how people used the stars as navigational tools and interviews a few people about their experiences and how they came to Dark-Sky certify Cape Lookout.
