The Technical Center of Union Carbide Agricultural Products Company, Inc. in Research Triangle Park conducts research on new and effective herbicides, insecticides, growth regulators and other compounds. Dr. E. M. La Combe, an organic chemist, presides over the center with the title of Site Manager. This article discusses La Combe’s background and operations at the technical center.

Support for the Nature Conservancy has grown in five years to include nineteen companies in North Carolina. Corporate involvement is inspired by belief in the merit of the conservancy’s program and in many cases by the tax benefits. New congressional districts were finalized by the General Assembly in late April on its fourth attempt to draw district lines that would satisfy minority racial and political interests. Because the issue was not settled until late spring, the state’s political primaries were postponed until June.
