Description
Book of photographs given to United States Naval Photo Interpreters to aid in the planning of Operation Husky. Operation Husky was the codename for the invasion of the island of Sicily in southern Italy. The aerial and ground photographs helped the allies choose the ideal places to make amphibious and aerial assaults during the beginning of the invasion and prepare for potential gun positions, the location of minefields, rifle pits, and munition dumps, roadblocks to avoid, and other obstacles to success. This particular copy belonged to Lieutenant Lester C. Haas. Haas was a Photo Interpretation and Intelligence Officer and as Commander of the Task Force 85 and 6th Amphibious Force on the U.S.S.
