MINUTES OF THE STAFF MEETING
Psychology Department
November-December Meeting

The November-December, 1969 statf meeting of the Psychology Department met at
4 o'clock, November 24, 1969 in EP 104 with all members present.

The following items of business were discussed and acted upon:

1. Dr. Martoccia reported for the Comprehensive Committee. He reported
that the following named students took the test in the designated
areas and that all of them passed according to the appraisal of the
various staff members who read their pavers:

Jolly--Clinical

Lima~-Clinical
Setaro~~General~Experimental
Dixon--General~Experimental

N. Jones~--General~Experimental

The staff voted to accept the report of the Comprehensive Committee.

A report from the Committee concerning the examination was also presented
by Dr. Martoccia. The recommendation of the Committee entailed basically
changing the scoring on the examination to a 13-point scale instead of
the present 4-point scale. After considerable discussion the staff
voted to return this to Dr. Martoccia's Committee for further study.

a 2. An Ad Hoc Committee appointed at a meeting of the Graduate Faculty in
the Psychology Department at its meeting on October 20, 1969 reported.
This Committee had been instructed to prepare an up-to-date check sheet
and make recommendations concerning appointment of graduate advisors.
This report was debated in great detail but eventually tabled and re-
turned to the Ad Hoc Committee for further elaboration. (See attached)

3. The Psychology 50-100 Committee reported through its Chairman, Dr. Tacker.
The following changes were recommended (and later passed by the staff):

That the Department Chairman consider a course load reduction
for a supervisor of the students teaching Psychology 50 (1/2 load).

That more formal and regular supervision be offered through class
visits and weekly meetings with the graduate students.

That a course guide be provided so that all sections of Psychology
50 would study the same topics at the same time.

That the supervisor assist in the standardization of lectures
through helping the students as a group prepare a 30 minute
lecture outline for each class period. These outlines would be
prepared during the weekly meetings with the graduate students.

That departmental examinations be constructed and administered to
all students taking Psychology 50 during a night examination.

That computer services be utilized in the grading of the examina-
tion but that the cutting points for each examination be deter-
mined during the weekly meetings. Final grades would depend upcn







both departmental examinations and instructor evaluation with
a 9 to 1 weighting.

7. That the current text for Psychology 50 be discontinued at the
end of the present academic year anc selection of a replacement
text be postponed until early sprins.

The meeting adjourned at 6 o'clock.
