Instruction
A. Comment on departmental practice in regard to:
1. Freshman and sophomore honors program--none.
2. Uniform grading practices in multiple section courses--none.
B. Average departmental teaching load--13 hours.
C. Comment on what is being done to attain or to maintain a strong
consistent faculty demand for higher quality student performance.
In spite of the fact that we have had a good many students to elect
psychology as a major not many students have ever graduated with a
record of successful completion of the program. It is rather well
known that the quality of work is demanding in several of our courses.
Also, the experimental design problem and the statistics work have
been helpful in upgrading student performance.
V. Departmental Development
A. List areas of specialty within the field that are thought to be necessary
or desirable to the present program or to the early expansion of the pro-
gram in which the Department (1) has no qualified faculty member or (2)
where the qualified faculty member within that field is within two years
of retirement:
We desire actually to have a Master's Degree in Industrial Psychology and
we are not handicapped by the limitation implied in this question (we
have qualified faculty members). We also would like to process a school
psychologist degree which is being held up by the State Board of Education.
B. List national honor society or societies in which Department is affiliated
noting new affiliations since last report:
The only affiliation which we would ultimately desire would be approval
by the American Psychological Association for internship in clinical
psychology. Since this is offered only to institutions granting a
doctor's degree we cannot obtain this affiliation.
C. If Department is not affiliated with a national honor society list any
steps being taken to gain affiliation--none
D. List any honors or awards given to the Department since the last report:
Ten of our students have been accepted for doctoral work at various
Departments of Psychology throughout the country including the University
of Georgia, the University of South Carolina, the University of North
Carolina, John Hopkins University, and Bryn Mawr College. All of these
students have obtained substantial scholarship subsidies.
