IIL. Curriculum

A. New degree programs added or deleted--None

Be New major or minor requirements:

A new check sheet has been developed

consistent with the overeall changes in the general education program of
the College. Certain minor revisions were made concerning the minor in
psychology. All of this information is available from the check sheet.

C. Courses added or deleted since the last report: Psychology 343G~~=
Psychology of Organization Behavior was added.

D. Courses not taught for the past two years that are still listed in
catalog~--None

E. Special leetures or special academic programs sponsored by the Department:
Dre William McGehee, Director of Personnel Research, Fieldcrest Mills
IV. Instruction

Ae Comment on Departmental practice in regard to;

1. Freshman and sophomore honors program: The Department is working on a
plan to present for an honors program in psychology.

2. Uniform grading practices in multiple section courses: In Psychology
50 we have had a number of group discussion meetings with all the
professors involved in order that some uniformity might be achieved
in grading.

B. Average Departmental teaching load--13 hours. Attention should be
drawn to the fact that our student-teacher ratio is still very high.
We realize that the College has tried to help us by granting additional
faculty members. We were unable to employ persons for all the vacancies.
We hope that our next report will show a decrease in student-teacher
ratioe

C. Comment on what is being done to attain or to maintain a strong consistent
faculty demand for higher quality student performance.

We are very well satisfied with the rigor of our graduate program. Many
students are denied admission to the graduate program here. In fact, we
maintain a cut-off point of 1000 on the Graduate Record Examination or a
raw score of 57 on the Miller Analogies Test, Also, a thorough scrutiny
of the student's undergraduate transcript is made by the Admissions
Committee in the Psychology Department. Finally, the course work itself
is quite demanding and weak students have practically no chance of getting
throughe

The undergraduate program is still a matter of concern. We have a
bimodal distribution of about 200 very good students and about 150
are weak students. I do not know how long this will obtain at this
College. It is folly for a very weak student to try to go through
the program since he must complete the demanding aspects of the general

education program and the work in the psychology major itself,

It is important to point out that the Department received an excellent
rating from the visiting team in regard to the medical school at East
Carolina Colleges We also would like to mention that our students who
have finished the program here are doing very well in fine graduate
schools throughout the countrye

steps being taken to gain affiliation.

List any honors or awards given to the Department since the last report:

1. Excellent report by the visitation team of the medical school

Zimmerman, Dre Williams, and Mr. Burkheimer.

4, The invitation of the Southern Regional Education Board to describe
