Title
Whichard Art Gallery blueprints
Description
Blueprints for Whichard Art Gallery, undated. The gallery was named for Kate W. Lewis, the first head of the Art Department. A 2019 history of the Whichard Building noted that the gallery has since moved to the Rawl Building. The building was originally built in 1923 to house the university's first library. It was later remodeled to house the Music Department before becoming an office building. It was named after David Julian Whichard, the owner and editor of the local Greenville, N.C. newspaper the Daily Reflector. Whichard was an ardent supporter of the fledgling college. Note: Blank fragments were discovered in this item when it was disbound. They were not digitized because they contained no visible information. Date approximated.
