Biographical/historical information
East Carolina Teachers Training School was chartered in 1907 and groundbreaking ceremonies took place in the summer of 1908. The school has grown rapidly, both in student population and in campus size since this time. In 1921, the school began offering four-year programs and was renamed East Carolina Teachers College. By 1951, ECTC received college status and was renamed East Carolina College. In 1967, ECC receives university status and receives a name change once again, becoming East Carolina University.
