It is also home to the world headquarters of Cotton Incorporated, the non-profit research and marketing company established by act of Congress in 1966 to amplify research and promotion of cotton. Since its inception, both demand and innovation for cotton have been dramatic.

Mona Hanes Templin is president of Mrs. Hanes Moravian Cookies in Clemmons, N.C. the business was started by her mother Evva Hanes in 1960. With exception to relocating the business from home to a store front in the mid-1960s and the addition of an electric mixer that blends 750 pounds of dough at a time, little has changed. All cookies are still carefully rolled, cut and packaged by hand. 10 million of the delicate crisps are produced annually.

2020 marks the 125th anniversary of when George Vanderbilt first opened Biltmore House to friends and family. The modern day Christmas celebrations at the site began in 1976. Running between November and January, the holiday event attracts some 400,000 guests annually.Of special interest are the Candlelight Christmas Evenings, where all fireplaces are lit amid the glow of 150 candles and Christmas trees. A special 125th sparkling wine is being introduced by the Biltmore winery for the event which runs from November 6, 2020 through January 9, 2021.
