GeekCraft is an expo for crafters who specialize in geeky, nerdy things like science-fiction, steampunk, comic books, and fantasy. One of its co-founders is Morrisville’s Daniel Way, known for writing comics featuring the Marvel Comics character Dead Pool. GeekCraft Expo will occur in conjunction with Oak City Comicon the weekend of April 16-17.

Brothers Matt and Ross Duffer grew up in the suburbs of Durham, and began making films in third grade. The Duffers made a breakthrough with their eight-episode series Stranger Things, which is now on Netflix. The series was created based on the Duffers’ favorite stories by Stephen King.

Chapel Hill Comics is another local business that will be closing in the Triangle as chain stores continue to develop. Ryan Kulikowski, the store’s owner, says financial matters were the main cause of its closure. Chapel Hill Comics was open for forty-years and attracted notable authors and comic writers.
