Chaddock Furniture Workroom originally started in California and now in Morganton has chosen to target the luxury furniture market.. In 1990, North Carolina had more than 90,000 people working in the furniture industry. By 2009, this number had dropped by more than a half due to a trade agreement that opened up imports from Asia. Construction began on the Shelby ByPass in 2013 but more than a decade later, less than half of the project is finished. The price tag for the project has gone up considerably as well from $194 million in 2012 to 313 million.
