THE INDEPENDENT ELECTRONIC MUSIC CENTER, INC.

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the
Independent Electronic Music Center, incorporated as
a non-profit organization. The Center is a completely
autonomous affiliate of the R. A. Moog Co., manu-
facturers of electronic music composition equipment.

The purposes of the Center are: to introduce and pro-
vide contemporary electronic media for music composi-
tion; and, to stimulate communication among persons
involved in various aspects of electronic music.

The Center hopes to provide a complete range of services
and facilities for composition and. communication.
Included will be:

The Electronic Music Review: a quarterly publica-
tion providing a source of information and a means

of discourse on electronic music among composers,

technicians, teachers, performers, and listeners.

It will present:

- descriptions of the circuitry, construction, and
applications of studio equipment

- information on working methods and techniques

- descriptions of equipment and facilities at
various studios |

- reports of various events, activities, and trends

- articles on aesthetic, theoretic, and analytic
aspects of electronic music

- bibliographies and discographies

- a letter-forum

- news of the development of Center services and
facilities.
The Review will gladly consider manuscripts on any
of the above topics. We invite prospective authors to
request a copy of the leaflet Information for Con-
tributors. The first issue will be published in January
1967, and will contain complete subscription informa-
tion. One free copy will be supplied per personal or
institution departmental request.

Courses of instruction in the principles and use of

contemporary electronic media. The Center is de-
veloping a preparatory curriculum to meet the needs
of interested composers having little or no direct ex-
perience with electronic composition equipment.
These courses, complete with text materials, will con-
sist of lectures, seminars, studio workshops, and possi-
bly guest lectures. A more advanced program (in-
cluding independent studio use) for those who have
completed the preparatory course, as well as for com-
posers having previous studio experience, will also be
provided. Further information will be published in
the Review.

Library facilities: a reference collection of catalogued
writings and recordings (the latter with listening
facilities) available to all those studying or working at
the Center. Included will be an archive of printed
programs and reviews of electronic music concert and
radio performances. The Center would greatly ap-
preciate receiving materials for this archive.

Studio facilities. Complete electronic composition
studios will be available to participants in the instruc-
tion program, The Center now has one complete
studio available for private use. Interested composers
are invited to request a copy of our brochure describ-
ing the facilities and terms.

Distribution of tapes. Those composers who wish to
have copies of tapes and scores of their electronic
compositions produced and sold (on a royalty basis)
through the Center should contact the Center immed-
iately. A distribution, duplication, and performance
protection system is being devised. A catalog of avail-
able tapes and scores will be announced in the
Review.

Visitors to the Center, presently located at the R. A.
Moog Co., are welcome. Notice should be furnished at
least two weeks in advance. Group visits (maximum 20
persons) should be arranged at least four weeks in
advance.

The ultimate realization of the aims of the Center will
largely depend upon your interest, response, and effective
financial support. Contributions are welcome and tax

deductible.

The Center would welcome receiving:

- a request for a free copy of the first issue of the
Review

- a request for the leaflet Information for Contribu-
tors (to the Review)

- a request for the studio brochure

- a request for information on distributing tapes
through the Center

- a request to visit the Center

- materials for the archive of electronic music con-
cert and radio programs and reviews

- contributions.

All communications will be promptly and fully answered.
A stamped, self-addressed envelope, or international re-
ply coupon, would be appreciated.
