The interviews provide an in-depth account of Judge John Davis Larkins, Jr.'s life and career. Included are commentaries on local activities in Jones County, N.C.; local and state politics (1935-1960); World War II; the 1960 gubernatorial campaign; N.C. political personalities; federal courts; and his philosophy of the court. On judicial matters, he discusses the rights of the accused, appeals procedures, equal justice, school integration, and interesting cases in which he has been involved.
