Description
Special orders dated November 4, 1864, from J. C. McRae at Headquarters, 2nd Mil. Dist., Stevens House to Major Thomas Sparrow in Washington, N.C. The special order says that Major Thomas Sparrow will report to Colonel Stephen Pool to assume command of the post and garrison at Fort Branch after he is done in Washington, N.C. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
