Description: Digital video recordings of George Henry White Day, an event held January 29, 2005 in Tarboro, North Carolina upon the unveiling of White's portrait at the Edgecombe County Courthouse. George Henry White (1852-1918) was a Black politician from North Carolina and a member of the United States House of Representatives, 2nd Congressional District from 1897-1901. White was the last Black United States Congressman elected in a Southern state until the 1960s. The event was hosted by the Phoenix Historical Society and featured two sessions with lectures and panel discussions by historians and community leaders. The liners from the original DVD cases in which the digital video recordings were stored at the time of donation provide additional biographical notes and details of the event. The date of creation reflected below describes the date the digital files were stored or moved onto the DVDs for donation to the repository, not the date of the original event. Creator: Phoenix Society for African American Research - 2007/2023
