Title: Correspondence from Mary Bason Whitehall to Lt. George Sadler
Identifier: 0358-b2-fb (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/86753)
Description: A "test" letter sent by Mary Bason Whitehall to Second Lieutenant George Sadler of the U.S. Army Air Corps. After not hearing from Sadler and having had previous correspondence returned "undelivered", Whitehall sent a "test letter" to Sadler to try to learn if he was safe. Whitehall writes that if she does not receive the letter returned to her after one month, she will know Sadler is well. A note at the top of the letter states that the letter was returned. In September, 1944, Lt. Sadler was listed as missing in action after his plane went down on a mission over German-held territory during World War II. Sadler was captured and held as a prisoner-of-war by the Germany. He was later liberated in June 1945.
