Correspondence from Ida L. Shannon to Mamie E. Jenkins
Title: Correspondence from Ida L. Shannon to Mamie E. Jenkins
Identifier: 0031-b6-fb   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/86750)
Description: Letter from missionary Ida L. Shannon to her friend Mamie E. Jenkins detailing Shannon's life and work during World War II on the home front. Most significant is Shannon's description of the incarceration of Japanese Americans in internment camps. Shannon describes her intended religious and social ministry to Christian Japanese immigrants and Christian Japanese Americans in California and how that plan was scrapped after they were interred. Shannon details her ministry to Japanese American women in the camps, her feelings on their incarceration, concern over students currently living in Japan who she served during her ministry, and empathy for both American and Japanese mothers who are losing their sons fighting in the Pacific.
