Correspondence from Ada Blackjack to Inglis Fletcher
Title: Correspondence from Ada Blackjack to Inglis Fletcher
Identifier: 0021-s1-b1-fe-i3   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/86337)
Description: Handwritten correspondence from Ada Blackjack to Inglis Fletcher with a typed note from Fletcher on back. A copy of the letter with the typed note was likely sent to the Arctic explorer Vilhjamur Stefansson. In Blackjack's letter, she discusses her money troubles which she feared would prevent her from sending her son, Bennett, to school. She also discusses her belief that Lorne Knight did not tear pages from his diary before his death during the Wrangel Island Expedition and her disbelief that people accuse her of tearing the pages out. Blackjack was the sole survivor of the failed expedition and was accused by Harold Noice of tearing pages out of Knight's diary after his death. In a typed note on the back, Fletcher discusses Stefansson sending money to Blackjack and her fear that Ada will be exploited by someone named "Hervey" if Stefansson does not send it to a bank.
