Description: Copy of a cartoon titled "A Society of Patriotic Ladies, at Edenton in North Carolina." London, Printed for R. Sayer & J. Bennett, No. 53 in Fleet Street, as the Act directs 25 March 1775. Plate V. On verso : "Photograph by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, of their copy of the 1775 cartoon, identical with the one Mr. Weddell had photographed at the Bibliothique Nationale." The Edenton Tea Party was held October 25, 1774, when a group of women signed a statement protesting the Tea Act, passed by the British Parliament in 1773. This particular copy of the cartoon part of the research papers kept by Elizabeth Vann Moore. While Moore researched numerous topics related to Eastern North Carolina, this item is related to her research and un-published manuscript on the Edenton Tea Party.
