The property was purchased and the house demolished as part of the Shore Drive Redevelopment Project meant to "revitalize" Greenville's downtown area, but which broke up a vibrant African American community and displaced over 250 African American families in the name of economic development. In the photograph dated 1964, several African American children and two older individuals can be seen playing on the front porch and front steps of the house.
