Description: Three miscellaneous items related to the Civil War in North Carolina. The letter (April 1862) was written by Henry F. Gladding, a Union soldier of the Rhode Island Infantry, 4th Regiment, Company K, to his mother describing the successful bombardment of Fort Macon, including strategy and weapons used. Also included is a brief comment on Beaufort, N.C. The second item is a circular (July 1863) was issued by Brigadier General B. H. Robertson and was intended for regimental commanders. It pertains to the necessity of grazing horses at regulated hours and controlling their movements rather than allowing them to wander over fields. This particular order was issued to Colonel D.D. Fereber of the North Carolina Infantry, 59th Regiment. The third item is a statement (1862) of the Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad Company regarding money owed to "alien enemies." All items in the folder are photocopies.
