Genes may be useful for determining your risk of heart disease but not necessarily defining the meaning of family. Family for us is going to each other's doctor’s appointments because PTSD makes it hard to go alone. Family is making sure we are each home safe every night. Family is where you go when you're happy or sad. It's sitting through hours of projects that aren't yours because you want to make it easier for them. Family is being just as excited about pajama dates as fancy dates. Family is why I will always love you with all of my heart and pacemaker."
