Identifier: UA22.10.01.03   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/59968)
Description: From author(s): "Growing up in Mexico, feeling like an outcast, was one of the hardest things in my life. As I got older, I realized I was different- I liked girls, but I was terrified to admit it and I became homophobic. Years later my mom and I moved to America. This was difficult because I left everything I knew behind. It was also the best thing that could ever happen to me. Being surrounded by friends from many backgrounds and diverse cultures gave me the strength to come out at the age of 16, even though I feared rejection. At first my family thought it was “a phase”, but they have come to realize being gay is not just a part of me, it is who I am. Jay is a junior majoring in biology.
