Description: Letter from Confederate soldier Robert C. Caldwell to his wife Mag Caldwell. Robert is serving as a private in Company C., 10th Battalion, North Carolina Heavy Artillery. Robert writes that his unit has been fighting and retreating in battles near Branchville and Broxton Bridge, South Carolina, and says he expects they will fall back to Columbia soon. He says they lost a good number of men at Broxton Bridge. Robert tells Mag his health is good but sometimes he does not get enough to eat and his clothes are about done.
