Description: Presentation of “Deliverance by Sea” by Bradley A. Rodgers of East Carolina University's Maritime Studies Program. Rodger's paper discusses the Upper Peninsula miners' strike of 1865. The strike was organized by miners of Marquette Iron Range in July, 1865. The USS Michigan was called in to put down the strike, which it did successfully. The USS Michigan was later rechristened the USS Wolverine in 1905.
