Description: This green scrapbook with a red binding belonged to Flavel W. Foster. Items pasted in scrapbook range in date from 1752 to 1902. Politics, religion, temperance, labor, education, poetry, and finance are topics of note to Foster. The majority of the items pasted down are clippings from newspapers. Items of particular note include: clippings on the construction of the Wilmington, N.C. Water Works, a Confederate 100 dollar bill, Series Y, No. 64005, dated Nov. 20, 1862 printed by Keatinge & Ball, Columbia, S.C., clippings regarding Foster's life as a politician in New Hanover County, N.C., correspondence on the election of 1898 in Wilmington, correspondence from Fore & Foster Planning Mill & Sash and Blind Co., Foster's passport to the Domincan Republic, correspondence confirming Foster's appointment as colonel in the North Carolina state militia, correspondence for the establishment of the American Union Telegraph Company telegraph lines in Richmond, Petersburg, and Norfolk, Virginia, Foster's appointment as a Little Leader by the Sunday School Board of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, a clipping detailing a physical attack on Foster by James Heaton, Republican ticket's with Foster listed as a candidate for office, a clipping on property owned by Foster in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Wilmington, N.C., a portion of a ledger from 1769, and a doctor's list of charges of delivering white and Black babies dated 1752.
