Description: Preliminary sketches of the Confederate ironclad CSS Neuse by W.E. Geoghegan and W. H. Rowland. Includes pencil sketches and blueprints. Constructed at White Hall (now Seven Springs) and Kinston, North Carolina, the Neuse was eventually burned by retreating Confederate soldiers and sunk in the Neuse River without seeing battle. Recovery of the ironclad began in the 1960s. The Neuse was eventually raised and is preserved in CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center in Kinston, N.C. Images are created from multiple scans.
