Description: Typescript of a speech given by John Rose Taylor on the social history of 18th century New Bern, North Carolina, particularly quoting from Francisco de Miranda's journal entry chronicling his visit to New Bern in the summer of 1783. Miranda's diary includes commentary on the social lives of women in New Bern. Taylor was a prominent member of the New Bern community, serving in several civic organizations, such as the Christian Church of New Bern. He is perhaps most well known for his work with the Mutual Life Insurance Company, where he worked for over 35 years. Date approximated.
