The interview covers McAlone's service on the USS North Carolina as a first class boatswain mate from March 30, 1942 to December 15, 1945. McAlone discusses his duties as master at arms, reactions when the ship was torpedoed during a battle, holidays on the ship, actitivies at port, favorite officers, and his relationship with black shipmates who worked as stewards.
