Note at the end of the essay indicates that this was the original copy and that it was "much altered & corrected and handed in to Prof Jas Alexander". Thomas Sparrow was attending Princeton University at this time. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
