Description: Letter from Thomas Sparrow in Wilmington [N.C.] to his wife Annie Sparrow. Sparrow writes that he spoke to Mr. Proctor about sending this letter to Annie. He is including letters from their children Ann and George, as well as some interesting newspaper scraps. Sparrow discusses the South's victories in the war. He also says that a reckoning is coming for the scoundrels in Beaufort County who joined or aided the enemy. Sparrow says that he received Annie's letter. He is happy to hear that the children are all well and longs to be with them again. When Sparrow returned to Wilmington from Tarboro, he found out that he had been appointed Judge Advocate of the General Court Martial. While fulfilling this duty, Sparrow is living with Captain Andrews in the Methodist Parsonage. Sparrow then tells Annie to write to him and that he will send her money from his pay. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
