Description: Letter from Thomas A. Demill in New York to Captain Thomas Sparrow during his imprisonment at Fort Warren in Boston. Demill writes that he received both Sparrow's letters from January 22nd and 28th the day before. He says he will have the trunk and box he sent returned to him and then forwarded to meet Sparrow at Fort Monroe. Demill expects Sparrow to go to Fort Monroe to see his men there. Demill then gives Sparrow directions to visit him on his way through New York. The Civil War correspondence relates the activities of Thomas Sparrow and his Washington Grays from their formation as a volunteer company in April of 1861, until their parole from a Union prison in February, 1862. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
