Description: Letter from T. G. Wall in Philadelphia to Captain Thomas Sparrow during his imprisonment at Fort Warren in Boston. Wall writes that he received a check from Hardy in New York paying Sparrow's bill. Wall offers to let Sparrow use this money for anything that he needs now instead and then pay the bill after he returns home. Wall hopes that Sparrow will be exchanged soon and regrets that Sparrow couldn't spend Christmas with his family. The Civil War correspondence relates the activities of Thomas Sparrow and his Washington Grays from their formation as a volunteer company in April of 1861, until their parole from a Union prison in February, 1862. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
