Description: Letter from Chas. W. Blossom in New York to Captain Thomas Sparrow at Fort Warren, Boston. Blossom writes that he sent the boots Sparrow requested. Lieutenant A.J. Thomas in Sparrow's Company requested an overcoat with very particular directions. Blossom says that they cannot provide military clothing, but they can send Thomas a regular overcoat. It has been a while since Thomas sent the request, so Blossom wants confirmation that Thomas is still in need of one. The Civil War correspondence relates the activities of Thomas Sparrow and his Washington Grays from their formation as a volunteer company in April of 1861, until their parole from a Union prison in February, 1862. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
