Description: Letter from Captain Thomas Sparrow, Commanding at Camp Washington, N.C. to Edward Warren, MD, Naval Surgeon & Co., at Ocracoke Inlet. Captain Sparrow tell Dr. Warren that there are six rooms that he can use, two above and four below. Sparrow says that the rooms upstairs can be used to confine patients with the "itch", and if not he can find a house to use as a hospital instead. Sparrow also says that he will requisition medical supplies in New Bern. The Civil War correspondence relates the activities of Thomas Sparrow and his Washington Grays from their formation as a volunteer company in April of 1861, until their parole from a Union prison in February, 1862. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
