Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Falkland, NC to his father Thomas Sparrow. George writes to his father about sending a pair of Sunday shoes and a hat. He then writes about his hopes to finish his crop by August 10th and then letting his hands shift for themselves so that he doesn’t have to feed them. George says he is prepared if the crop does not turn out well, but he is optimistic that he will make 30 bags and make a profit. He also says that the field where he used Burbank and Gallagher fertilizer yielded the best crop. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
