Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow at the Hillsborough Military Academy to his father Thomas Sparrow. George writes to his father that he heard there is a large fleet off of Wilmington and that the Confederates were looking for an attack daily. George says he doesn’t have much confidence in the report. He thinks it would make his mother in Washington, NC less anxious if his father could find a way to communicate with her. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
