Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Okaw, Illinois to his father Thomas Sparrow. George tells his father that he just finished his lessons for the day. George, Jack, Harvey, and Jim recite to Cousin Billy, Aunt Sallie, and Aunt Mary and learn more this way than at the school house. On Saturday George went with the boys into the woods with a wagon to get pea sticks and bean poles, which they split with his Grandpa. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
