Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Okaw, Illinois to his father Thomas Sparrow. George tells his father that he cleaned out the hog pen and replaced the straw. Aunt Sallie left and Mary took her place. The carpenters have finished work on the new house and now the masons are working. He gives a message from his mother that his baby brother John is doing well and growing. George then discusses an upcoming meeting about incorporating the town and some men getting in a heated argument at church. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
