George writes to his father that the children were disappointed that he did not come the previous morning. George says that his mother, Annie Mariah Blackwell Sparrow and his sister Maggie are sick. One of the children has broken out with scarlet fever, and everyone in town is afraid to get too close to them. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
