Pass written from the Faison, N.C. train depot in which she sends news of the recent fighting in Kinston between Union and Confederate troops and her belief that the Union troops will attack Goldsboro next. Pass mentions the large number of refugees on the trains fleeing Kinston and Goldsboro and the difficulty of sending salt to her husband because of the war. She also describes her daughters' poor health.
